About
Bona Yarns was birthed in April 2021 and allows me time and space to be creative and to play.
I dye on an assortment of bases, from top-quality suppliers based in the UK. The merino I use is doxing-free.
I work from a small studio space in East London that only allows me to dye in small batches.
Dear EU customers - due to all post-Brexit rules, I am no longer able to sell to you.
Whilst I do my best to ensure that I don’t send out any yarns that bleed badly, your water pH may be different to mine, so I always recommend swatching and then washing your swatch to check for bleeding. Due to the intensity of my colours, you may experience light bleeding with some colours.
Fat Fingering
Fat Fingering is my favourite base, as I love to do stranded colourwork (especially in the style of Fairisle) and love how it feels to knit with.
It’s 100% Corriedale - a cross-breed of Merino and Lincoln Longwool. It’s not as soft as a pure Merino, but it is soft enough for my to wear against my sensitive skin.
It’s woollen-spun, which means that it’s plumper than a worsted-spun yarn, due to all the tiny pockets of air trapped inside. Which means it’s more insulating than worsted-spun. And it will bloom beautifully after blocking.
It’s non-superwash. Which means it needs to be hand-washed in cool water. It’s not as sticky as a Shetland yarn, so I would recommend reinforcing any vertical lines that you will cut with crochet. But it’s sticky enough that a sewing machine reinforcement is not necessary.
Due to being woollen-spun and non-superwash, you will find small pieces of dried vegetation in the yarn that the sheep will have picked up in their fleece. This is normal.
Approx. 450 metres per 100g.
Big Boy DK
The big brother to Fat Fingering, so all the same details apply. Knits up closer to a Worsted weight.
Approx. 300 metres per 100g.
